Yakubu double lifts Wuhan past Meizhou in Chinese Super League

WUHAN - Unstoppable Ghana forward Abdul-Aziz Yakubu scored a brace to help Wuhan Three Towns notch a 2-1 victory over Meizhou Hakka at home in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Sunday.

Wuhan had an ideal start when Yakubu blasted a shot into the net just four minutes after kick-off following a pass from Nicolae Stanciu.

Despite dominating the field, Wuhan could not extend their lead with waves of attacks and Meizhou leveled the game through Rade Dugalic's header from their first corner kick in the 17th minute.

Meizhou started strongly after the break, gaining more ball possession and creating a couple of chances through rapid counter-attacks.

However, Yakubu headed home in the 71st minute to put Wuhan ahead again following Wen Junjie's accurate diagonal cross.

Wuhan is now seventh in the 16-team standings with 27 points, 11 points ahead of 13th-placed Meizhou.
