New school for HK children in Shenzhen

Princeton Skylake International School for Hong Kong Students (Shenzhen) was inaugurated on Tuesday -- the first school in Futian district set up exclusively for children from the special administrative region.

The school aims to introduce Hong Kong-style education and a talent development model to Shenzhen, with a high-quality team of teachers with master’s or doctoral degrees from renowned overseas universities, Hong Kong’s top three higher-education institutions, and prestigious universities on the Chinese mainland

The school, located in the Futian central business district, is a nine-year boarding bilingual school with small classes, and is open for enrolment from grades one to nine. It adopts a Hong Kong-based English curriculum, supplemented by the teaching models of the Cambridge international curriculum and the IB (International Baccalaureate) program.

Yip Chee-tim, former principal of Pui Ching Middle School, is the new school’s chief principal.

Princeton Skylake International School has entered into sister school partnerships with Hong Kong Pui Ching Middle School and Macao Pui Ching Middle School. The three schools will share resources, collaborate and provide students with more diverse learning opportunities.

With the growing number of Hong Kong residents working and living in Shenzhen, primary educational exchanges and cooperation between the two cities have increased. There are also two other schools with Hong Kong children in the city’s Luohu and Baoan districts. In addition, 11 schools in Shenzhen offer classes for Hong Kong students,having enrolled more than 4,500 students.

Another new institution -- Harrow Hong Kong Children School in Qianhai -- plans to start the school year in September, offering an academic program adopting both the Hong Kong and IB curricula.
