Solomon Islands PM urges adopting China's partnership model

UNITED NATIONS - Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare on Friday called for adopting China's transformative partnership model, including several initiatives China has proposed.

We acknowledge and value South-South cooperation because it is less restrictive, more responsive, and is aligned to our national needs.

"We applaud the People's Republic of China for their initiative in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda (for Sustainable Development of the United Nations) through their Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative," Sogavare said in his speech to the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.

These transformative initiatives carry significant importance in promoting, implementing and achieving the 2030 Agenda, and should be adopted by all partners, he said.

"We acknowledge and value South-South cooperation because it is less restrictive, more responsive, and is aligned to our national needs," he noted.

Sogavare also called for stronger commitment to multilateralism as well as reform of the international financial architecture.
