Asiad: HK fencers clinch another bronze, winning nine medals

The Hong Kong fencing team clinched another bronze medal in the men's epee team competition on Friday, earning the city’s fencing its ninth medal at the 19th Asian Games.

This win marks the highest number of medals the Hong Kong fencing team ever has bagged at an Asian Games

The Hong Kong team will compete with Malaysia for the gold medal in this event at 1 pm on Saturday

Hong Kong athletes had spots lined up in numerous finals on Friday afternoon and was well positioned to win medals in various events, including e-sports and swimming.

During Friday morning's semifinals for the Dream Three Kingdoms 2 e-sports event, the Hong Kong team defeated Thailand 2-0, which means they are through to the final and have at least won a silver medal.

This medal is a first for Hong Kong in e-sports at the Asian Games, with e-sports becoming an official Asian Games competition for the first time at this year's games.

They will also have a chance to win gold if they can defeat the Chinese national team in Saturday's final. 

On Friday morning, Hong Kong triumphed over India in the women’s team semifinal of the squash event, guaranteeing them a spot in the final. This ensures they will earn a silver medal in team squash, and have a chance to win gold.

The Hong Kong team will compete with Malaysia for the gold medal in this event at 1 pm on Saturday. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, the city won top prize in the women's team squash.

In the men's epee team quarterfinal, Hong Kong defeated Uzbekistan, securing a spot in the semifinals, in which they were defeated by Kazakhstan. However, the team still won a bronze medal.

In the women's 4x100-meter medley relay swimming event, the Hong Kong team secured a second-place finish in their group, earning them a spot in the final scheduled for Friday night.

In the men's doubles table tennis event, Hong Kong faced off against Tajikistan and secured a  3-1 win, earning a place in the top eight. 

As of Friday afternoon, Hong Kong had won a total of 33 medals including, five gold, 12 silver, and 16 bronze at this year’s Asian Games.
