HONG KONG - John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said on Saturday that he hopes all sectors of the community will continue to vigorously promote the Constitution and the Basic Law of the HKSAR, and work together for the steady and long-term implementation of "one country, two systems."

Lee made the remarks via video link at a symposium commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law of the HKSAR held by the Joint Committee for the Promotion of the Constitution and Hong Kong Basic Law.

Lee said both the Constitution and the Basic Law of the HKSAR form the constitutional basis of the HKSAR and reflect the inseparable relationship between the central government and Hong Kong

Based on the solid legal foundation jointly established by the Constitution, the Basic Law of the HKSAR and the national security law in Hong Kong, Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability have been safeguarded in an effective manner, he said.

All sectors of Hong Kong society should enhance their understanding of the Constitution, the Basic Law of the HKSAR and the national security law in Hong Kong, Lee noted.

He said the HKSAR government is pressing ahead to draw up relevant legislative options to complete local legislation for safeguarding national security stipulated in Article 23 of the Basic Law of the HKSAR as early as possible.
