4 survive after Russian charter jet crashes in Afghanistan

KABUL/MOSCOW - The wreckage of a Russian charter jet that crashed in Afghanistan Saturday night was found in Badakhsan province on Sunday with four aboard survived, spokesman for Afghan caretaker government Zabihullah Mujahid said.

The plane was located in the Aruz Koh area of Kof Ab district in Badakhshan province and the pilot of the plane is among the four injured people, according to Mujahid.

Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the Russian embassy in Afghanistan is now cooperating with local authorities on the aftermath of the crash

He noted that the search team of the Afghan administration has been continuing their efforts to find if any other survived the crash.

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency on Sunday confirmed that the jet, a Dassault Falcon 10 with six on board including four crew and two passengers, crashed in Afghanistan on its way to Moscow from India via Uzbekistan.

Russia's Investigation Commission has launched an investigation into the accident, while Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the Russian embassy in Afghanistan is now cooperating with local authorities on the aftermath of the crash.

The aircraft, owned by Athletic Group LLC and an individual, was performing a charter sanitary flight from Gaya, India, via Tashkent of Uzbekistan, to the Zhukovsky airport near Moscow, said the Russian aviation watchdog.
