Sun earns China's 100th gold at short track speed skating worlds

ROTTERDAM - Sun Long emerged victorious in the men's 1,500m of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships on Saturday for China's 100th gold medal at the tournament.

The 23-year-old has crossed the second in 2:23.009 in Final A, but top finisher Hwang Dae-heon of South Korea was penalized after video review just minutes later, handing gold to Sun.

"It's a great honor to win the 100th gold for China. As we have said many times before, you can always believe in China's short track speed skating team," Sun said after the final.

Local skater Jens van't Wout timed 2:23.260 to take the silver, while Australia's Brendan Corey finished third in 2:23.428.

Meanwhile, China's Lin Xiaojun claimed the men's 500m title at the tournament, bagging his seventh gold.

The Olympic champion finished in 41.592 seconds to clinch the title, while Kazakhstan's Denis Nikisha came second in 41.676. The bronze medal went to Canada's Jordan Pierre-Gilles who clocked 52.289.

It was the second victory of the day for China, after Sun Long has topped the podium in the men's 1,500m, which marked China's 100th gold medal at the short track speed skating worlds.
