RIO DE JANEIRO - Reigning Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo have reached an agreement with Gabriel Barbosa to secure the striker on a permanent deal.
However, Flamengo president Marcos Braz said the Rio de Janeiro giants are still negotiating with Internazionale, with whom Barbosa is contracted until June 2022.

"We have an agreement with him and we are in the final sprint with the club (Inter)," Braz told reporters. "We hope to achieve a happy outcome for Flamengo, Inter and Gabriel. I think that within a week we'll have a happy ending."
Barbosa, who is nicknamed Gabigol, scored 43 goals in 59 matches across all competitions for Flamengo in 2019, helping them to their first Brazilian Serie A title since 2009 and just their second Copa Libertadores crown.
His prolific season followed an impressive 12-month loan at Santos, where he netted 27 times in 53 matches.
Barbosa, 23, was considered one of the world's most promising young forwards in 2016, when he joined Internazionale for US$30 million from Santos.

But he managed just one goal in 10 matches for the Italian club before an equally unsuccessful six-month loan spell at Benfica.
Flamengo are also hoping to extend the contract of Portuguese head coach Jorge Jesus, whose current deal expires in June. Braz did not reveal details of the negotiations but local media reported that the former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon boss has been offered a contract until the end of 2021.
