HK sees single-digit rise in COVID-19 infection for 4th day

HONG KONG - Hong Kong recorded four new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday — marking the fourth straight day of single-digit increase in the city — taking the tally to 1,016.

All the new patients, including a 60-year-old female resident who returned from Morocco, had recently traveled outside Hong Kong.

The woman tested negative for the coronavirus upon her arrival in Guangzhou, Guangdong province from the African country on April 10 via a chartered flight. On her return to Hong Kong later that day, she started a 14-day mandatory home quarantine

But she tested positive for the virus four days later while in quarantine, according to the Centre of Health Protection.

A 22-year-old male student was also confirmed to be infected after he returned from the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

The other two patients involved a 36-year-old man returning from the Netherlands and a 42-year-old man coming back from the UK.

According to the Hospital Authority, 10 patients remain in critical condition at different hospitals. Another 25 patients were discharged from hospital, taking the total number of recovered patients to 458.

Also on Wednesday, the Macao SAR government made it mandatory for all air passengers to the city to present a medical report proving that they have tested negative for the disease before boarding. With 45 COVID-19 infections, Macao recorded no new cases for a week.
