Evergrande did not have a promising opportunity until captain Paulinho carved open the Henan defense with a close-range finish two minutes before half-time.

In the 78th minute, Wei rebounded a clever low shot into the net after his attempt from a penalty was blocked by Wu. After five minutes, the young forward achieved his second goal with a superb strike crossed from Xu Xin.

The second-half introduction of Fernando Karanga, who pulled one back in the 86th minute, gave Henan fresh attacking impetus but did nothing to change the result.

"The game with Henan is a really tough one. They have advantage both in attack and defense. I asked the team to keep patience, but I am most satisfied with their morale today," said Evergrande head coach Fabio Cannavaro.

In the other game, Giovanni Moreno scored a goal to seal the 1-0 victory for Shanghai Shenhua against Jiangsu Suning, his 200th appearance representing Shenhua.

In the 19th minute, Peng Xinli contributed a long-distance cross to the bottom of the box from the right side. Feng Xiaoting skillfully kicked the ball back to the front of the goal, gifting Moreno a comfortable tap-in.

The second half did not witness any effective attack until the 90th minute. Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira Santos converted a header at the edge of the box to Huang Zichang, who volleyed from a close range to the corner of the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
