HK sees 36 new virus cases, halts meat imports from Brazil plant

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 36 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed cases to 4,560.

The newly-reported cases were one imported case and 35 local infections, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP's Communicable Disease Branch, told a media briefing.

According to Hong Kong's Hospital Authority, 751 patients are still hospitalized, including 31 in critical condition. The number of related deaths has accumulated to 70 in Hong Kong. 

The Authority said a 95-year-old patient with chronic condition had died from the disease, bringing the death toll in the financial hub to 70.

The government has suspended the license application for the import of poultry meat from an Aurora Alimentos plant in the southern state of Santa Catarina. 

The move comes after a surface sample of chicken wings from the plant tested positive for coronavirus in nearby Shenzhen.
