MOSCOW - Belarus’ foreign ministry on Thursday described a European Parliament resolution saying Alexander Lukashenko should not be recognized as president from November as aggressive in character and not constructive, the Interfax news agency reported.
The resolution also called for European Union economic sanctions to be imposed on him following a Aug 9 presidential election that the opposition said was rigged.

While the European Parliament’s vote is not legally binding, it carries political weight and can influence how the EU invests in Belarus or grants financial support.
Kremlin has accused the West of seeking a revolution in the country.
