UNITED NATIONS - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday condemned the violence in Guinea following Sunday's presidential election, said his spokesman.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres encouraged all actors to await the announcement of the official results by the electoral authorities and to resolve any potential disputes through established legal mechanisms
Guterres was deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction of property. He expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a full recovery to the injured, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.
The secretary-general called on all sides to immediately take action to end the violence, urging the security forces to exercise maximum restraint at this sensitive time.

The secretary-general reiterated the UN commitment to support the country's efforts to swiftly defuse tensions and promote dialogue and national cohesion.
