HAVANA - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday denounced the new measure adopted by the United States government against Cuba, which seeks to prevent the entry of remittances to Cuba.

"The United States insists on harming the Cuban family with a new measure against remittances," the president wrote on Twitter, saying the action "discredits it and makes it appear ridiculous for its sick hatred against a small nation whose heroic people do not surrender."

In September of last year, the US government reduced the permitted number of quarterly remittances to Cuba to US$1,000 and eliminated the possibility of processing financial transactions that go through US banks

On Friday, the US government announced the elimination of certain general authorizations related to remittances to Cuba, which impacts the company Fincimex, SA, included in June on the State Department's List of Restricted Entities and Subentities Associated with Cuba, as it prevents shipments through the company.

In September of last year, the US government reduced the permitted number of quarterly remittances to Cuba to US$1,000 and eliminated the possibility of processing financial transactions that go through US banks.

The State Department's Cuba Restricted List includes more than 200 entities, including companies, corporations, the Mariel Special Development Zone, and the ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior.

This week, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the tightening of the blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than half a century, which has caused accumulated losses of more than US$144 billion.
