BEIJING - Chinese health authorities said Tuesday that it received reports of 49 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Monday, including five locally transmitted cases and 44 imported infections.
All the new local cases were reported in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.
For the new imported cases, nine were reported in Shanghai, eight cases each in Guangdong and Sichuan, four each in Inner Mongolia, Fujian and Hubei, two each in Beijing and Tianjin, and one each in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong, the commission said.

Another 21 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, it said, adding that there were 391 patients still being treated, including nine in severe condition.
By the end of Monday, a total of 3,445 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 3,120 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 325 remained hospitalized. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.
Overall, the mainland has reported a total of 86,070 confirmed cases, including 81,045 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, the commission said.
Currently, there were two suspected cases on the mainland, while 15,585 close contacts were still under medical observation after 514 were released from observation, according to the commission.
Nine asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases, while 725 asymptomatic cases, including 493 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation, the commission said.

By Monday, 5,336 confirmed cases, including 105 deaths, have been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while the Macao SAR has had 46 cases and Taiwan has reported 563 cases, including seven deaths.
A total of 5,102 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR and 519 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
