During the expo, Boston Scientific held a livestreaming seminar that promoted healthy aging and innovation. It invited senior officials, experts, scholars and a business executive to discuss how to leverage innovation to improve end-to-end disease management for an aging population in an attempt to improve the availability and affordability of high-quality medical resources.
"With the rising proportion of chronic diseases and increasing household incomes, people's health needs have grown substantially, and they increasingly demand higher-quality medical services, which has a huge impact on industry innovation," said Wang Zhen, director of the division of public economics with the Institute of Economics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Talking about this change, Kong Lingzhi, former deputy director of the bureau of disease control and prevention at the Ministry of Health, said: "The aging population means that medical institutions have to shift their focus to providing better health management services rather than simply treating patients. The long-term management of chronic diseases should be at primary care levels, instead of county-level hospitals. The future hinges on medical consortia that collaborate closely."

While protecting the lives and health of the elderly, it is essential to create personalized care solutions and introduce innovative medical equipment, said Huang Wei, director of the biological industry development bureau at Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
"Precision medicine and personalized care will shape the future of health management for the elderly. We use big data, artificial intelligence and 5G applications to enable lower-tier regions to access medical resources, and contribute to poverty alleviation," Huang said.
Gu Gang, director of the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, said: "We are leveraging pilot policies and real-world data research to provide international pharmaceutical companies with the opportunity to introduce their innovative products to China more quickly, and offer end-to-end care services to the elderly who pursue healthy aging here."
June Chang, president of Boston Scientific Greater China, said: "On top of more innovative products, we also hope to provide better solutions from disease prediction and prevention to remote monitoring to management."
"With the commitment of 'advancing science for life', we will bring more cutting-edge global technologies to benefit elderly patients in China and actively contribute to the healthcare system from the perspective of disease management throughout the complete life cycle.
"For Boston Scientific, 'Made in China, for China, and also for the world' will be one important pillar of our future strategy."
Boston Scientific is committed to working with local partners in the full value chain to provide advice for China to build a "healthy aging" society, and aims to foster local healthcare innovation.
The company said it will step up innovation to offer precise medical solutions to alleviate the disease burden that comes with an aging population.
