BOC Life, Quality Healthcare set up online shop

Digital healthcare is gaining momentum in Hong Kong with BOC Life and Quality Healthcare entering into a partnership on Monday, allowing customers of BOC Life and staff of Bank of China to purchase more than 100 types of medical and healthcare products online at preferential prices.

The venture, QHMS Wellness Online Shop, offers different types of healthcare services of Quality Healthcare Medical Services -- a leading healthcare operator in Hong Kong -- to BOC Life’s customers, such as body checks, vaccines, COVID-19 tests and traditional Chinese medicine services.

Clients can redeem selected healthcare products using Wellness Dollars they gain by purchasing BOC Life’s designated life insurance or deferred annuity plan products.

BOC Life also launched a website and Facebook page called Health Research Institute to promote and give away Wellness Dollars.

Wilson Tang, chief executive of BOC Life, said as Hong Kong’s population continues to age, the number of residents aged 65 or above will double in the next two decades, reaching 2.52 million by 2039 and accounting for one-third of the total population. 

As the public healthcare system remains under pressure, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for private and digital healthcare services is growing, Tang said. 

He said BOC Life aims to build a digital ecosystem through cross-sector collaboration. The company is in discussions with smart watch brand Garmin and French reinsurance group SCOR to foster a strategic partnership and introduce digital health management experience to Hong Kong customers by the first quarter next year.

Elaine Chu, general manager of Quality Healthcare, said through the partnership with BOC Life, they hope to reach create a wider customer network.

With the digital experience, the company can quickly and easily provide the community with diversified healthcare services, enabling people to manage their health at anytime and anywhere, she said.
