Virus: 3 new local cases among mainland's 18 fresh infections

BEIJING/HOHHOT - China's National Health Commission said Monday that it received reports of 18 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Sunday, including three domestically transmitted cases and 15 imported ones.

All the domestically transmitted cases were reported in the city of Manzhouli in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to the commission and local health authorities.

Among them, one patient was re-categorized from a previously reported asymptomatic case, local health authorities said.

Three new asymptomatic cases were also reported in Manzhouli, according to the local authorites. 

Of the new imported cases, five were reported in Shanghai and Shandong, respectively, three in Sichuan, and one each in Shanxi and Guangdong, the National Health Commission

Meanwhile, among the new imported cases on the mainland, five were reported in Shanghai and Shandong, respectively, three in Sichuan, and one each in Shanxi and Guangdong, the commission said.

No additional suspected cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, the commission added.

Another 21 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, it said, adding that there were 277 patients still receiving treatment, of whom seven in severe condition.

By the end of Sunday, a total of 3,858 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 3,609 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 249 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

Overall, the mainland has recorded 86,530 confirmed cases, including 81,619 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, according to the commission.

There were currently seven suspected cases on the mainland, the commmission said, adding that 7,174 close contacts remained under medical observation.  

Also on Sunday, 17 new asymptomatic cases were reported, 14 of whom were arriving from outside the mainland, and two asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases.

A total of 281 asymptomatic cases were under medical observation, including 274 arriving from outside the mainland.

By the end of Sunday, 6,238 confirmed cases, including 109 deaths, have been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while the Macao SAR has recorded 46 cases, and Taiwan has logged 651 cases, including seven deaths.

A total of 5,340 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao SAR, and 565 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
