4 local cases in Chengdu among mainland's 15 new infections

BEIJING/CHENGDU - China's National Health Commission said Wednesday that it received reports of 15 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, four of which were locally transmitted in Sichuan province.

The local cases were reported in Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan, according to local authorities early Wednesday. One of the patients is a 20-year-old woman, who is the granddaughter of two patients who were confirmed on Monday, according to the local authorities.

The mainland also saw 11 new imported cases which were posted in Shanghai, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Guangxi and Sichuan, the National Health Commission said

Besides the four local cases, the mainland also saw 11 newly reported imported cases, the commission said in its daily report.

Six of those cases were posted in Shanghai, two in Guangdong, and one each in Jiangsu, Guangxi and Sichuan, the commission said.

It added that two new suspected imported cases were also reported in Shanghai.

No additional deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.

Another 11 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, it said, adding that there were 284 patients still receiving treatment.

By the end of Tuesday, a total of 3,969 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 3,727 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery while 242 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

Overall, the mainland has reported 86,661 confirmed cases, including 81,743 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, according to the commission.

As of Tuesday, there were three suspected cases on the mainland, and 6,421 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Tuesday also saw one newly reported asymptomatic case on the mainland, while one imported asymptomatic case was re-categorized as a confirmed one.

A total of 210 asymptomatic cases were under medical observation, of which 202 were imported cases, the commission said.

By the end of Tuesday, 7,075 confirmed cases, including 112 deaths, have been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while Macao SAR has recorded 46 confirmed cases and Taiwan has logged 718 cases, including seven deaths.

Altogether, 5,696 patients in Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao and 582 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals.
