Lille reclaim Ligue 1 top spot after goalless draw against PSG

PARIS - Lille reclaimed the top spot of the Ligue 1 standings after drawing against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 0-0 at home on Sunday.

Christophe Galtier's side was ahead of Lyon, who defeated Nice 4-1 on Saturday, on goal difference, while PSG was third with one point behind. Last year's runner-up Marseille was in the fourth position with five points behind Lille but with two matches in hand.

PSG was playing without Brazilian striker Neymar, who injured his ankle in PSG's last-week defeat to Lyon, and Kylian Mbappe, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, was benched by head coach Thomas Tuchel and was fielded with just 13 minutes remaining in the match.

"We were missing a lot of players who are usually decisive for us," Tuchel said. "But we did very well and controlled their counterattacks."

The visitor enjoyed the lion's share of the ball possession, which up to 70 percent, but just managed eight shots with only one on target, even not as good as its rival who made three on target from the same attempts.

"All our matches at 21:00. We lack sleep and recovery time. We have had too many injuries until now and picked up another three this evening," Tuchel complained after the match and ascribed the wave of injuries within his team to the timing of league matches.

Presnel Kimpembe appeared to have injured his hamstring and limped off in the closing stage, followed by Alessandro Florenzi and Layvin Kurzawa were also substituted due to seemingly injuries.

Also on Sunday, early league frontrunner Rennes returned to the top five with a comfortable 3-0 win over promotor Lorient.

Damien Da Silva opened the scoring for Rennes in the 23rd minute before Benjamin Bourigeaud and Martin Terrier added two in the second half.

Niko Kovac's Monaco bounced back from a three-game losing streak as Kevin Volland's early goal secure it a 1-0 win at last-ranked Dijon FCO.
