JIUQUAN - China on Thursday sent a new satellite into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.

It was the 13th flight mission of the Kuaizhou-1A rockets, according to the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center

The Shiyan-11 satellite was launched by a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket at 7:41 am (Beijing Time) and entered the planned orbit.

The satellite will be mainly used for land surveys, urban planning, crop yield estimation and disaster prevention and mitigation.

Kuaizhou-1A, which means "fast ship" in Chinese, is a low-cost small solid-fuel carrier rocket with a short preparation period. The rocket is designed to launch low-orbit satellites weighing under 300 kg.
