Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor met the visiting Chinese mainland experts on Wednesday to exchange views on the latest pandemic situation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the efforts made to stop the virus.

Three batches of experts with rich experience in combating the pandemic have come to Hong Kong since mid-February to inspect and provide guidance on the Hong Kong SAR's work against COVID-19.

The expert delegations have been meeting different units of HK's anti-pandemic team and visiting different locations of the city's anti-pandemic work, offering objective and pragmatic views in various aspects. Chief Executive Carrie Lam expressed her gratitude to them

Since their arrival in Hong Kong, the expert delegations have been meeting different units of Hong Kong's anti-pandemic team and visiting different locations of the city's anti-pandemic work, offering objective and pragmatic views in various aspects. Lam expressed her gratitude to them.

While noting that the fifth wave of the pandemic has clearly been curbed, she said the Hong Kong SAR government will not let its guard down and will continue to fully implement the strategy of reducing critical cases, deaths and infections.

Besides adopting testing measures to pin down infections in the community as soon as possible, a multi-tiered triage and treatment strategy will be strengthened to support patients, especially the elderly. The vaccination rates of seniors and children will also be boosted, she said.

The mainland medical experts have also fostered cooperation between mainland and Hong Kong medical personnel. A case in point is the integration of Chinese and Western medicines in the community treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo, giving full play to Chinese medicine to prevent mild illnesses from turning serious and to relieve symptoms.

Lam said the HKSAR government is grateful to the mainland experts for their hard work and guidance, noting that they have shared their observations and suggestions to help Hong Kong fight the virus.

"The Hong Kong SAR government will continue to closely monitor the epidemic development, review it with experts and listen to the views of different sectors in society,” Lam said.
