WUHAN - Wuhan Yangtze River cruised past Guangzhou FC 1-0 to notch up its third straight win, while Shanghai Port beat Hebei FC 2-0 in the third round of the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Saturday.
The first half ended in a goalless stalemate between Guangzhou and Wuhan. The cheers came late in the 80th minute, when Wuhan's midfielder Liu Yun took a corner and Li Peng headed the ball into the goal. Guangzhou, which sat at bottom in standings among 18 teams, strove to shoot their first goal of the season, but scored nothing with eight failed shots.
No match can be easily won in the CSL. And for us, it's also hard to break through the defense of Guangzhou, the former CSL champion.

"It's my first visit to the Dalian Puwan Stadium. It's beautiful and the most important of all is that we could contribute a game that was open to audiences."
Elsewhere, Shanghai Port took an early lead in the game against Hebei FC. In the fourth minute, Zhang Linpeng of Shanghai capitalized on his teammate's free kick to score with a header, despite a touch from Hebei goalkeeper Bao Yaxiong.
Shanghai further extended the lead in the second half. Four minutes after Cherif Ndiaye stepped on the pitch as a substitute, the Senegalese striker slid the ball into the gate right before the goalkeeper to seal the game 2-0.
