Hong Kong residents' income down 1.2% in Q2

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's Gross National Income (GNI) decreased by 1.2 percent in the second quarter of 2022 from a year earlier, the Census and Statistics Department said Thursday.

In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon, the C&SD said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's GNI, the total income earned by Hong Kong residents from engaging in economic activities, stood at HK$755.2 billion (about US$96.22 billion) at current market prices.

After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, Hong Kong's GNI decreased by 3.1 percent in real terms in the second quarter of 2022 from a year earlier

The gross domestic product (GDP), estimated at HK$677.2 billion at current market prices in the same quarter, recorded a 0.4 percent decrease from a year earlier.

After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, Hong Kong's GNI decreased by 3.1 percent in real terms in the second quarter of 2022 from a year earlier. The corresponding GDP in the same quarter decreased by 1.3 percent in real terms, the department said.

The Chinese mainland continued to be the largest source of the HKSAR's total primary income inflow in the second quarter of 2022, accounting for 45.4 percent, it added.  

Hong Kong's total inflow of primary income, which mainly comprises investment income, estimated at HK$503.9 billion in the second quarter, recorded an increase of 5.3 percent from a year earlier. Meanwhile, total primary income outflow, estimated at HK$425.8 billion, also increased by 7.9 percent from a year earlier.
