Hong Kong youths gathered across the city on Sunday to watch the live broadcast of the opening session of the Communist Party of China’s 20th National Congress and get a feel for the pulse of the nation’s development planned for the next five years.
Inspired by Xi Jinping’s report delivered at the session, they said the milestone event has greatly lifted the special administrative region’s confidence in its future development prospects. They vowed to shoulder their responsibilities to ensure the steady and long-term implementation of “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong.

More than 100 youngsters watched the live broadcast of the congress at the offices of various youth groups in Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, Wan Chai and Tin Shui Wai.

Gary Wong Chi-him, a board member of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies, said he was encouraged by Xi’s emphasis on the role of youths in national development.

As an association member engaged in youth work, Wong said he will pay greater attention to the needs of young people in Hong Kong, maintain his enthusiasm in youth work, and unite and lead local youths to make greater contributions to the country.
Kazaf Tam Chun-kwok, chairman of Hong Kong group Youth Vision, said the CPC’s 20th National Congress has mapped out the blueprint for the SAR’s future development. People from all walks of life should pay close attention to the event and understand its work and significance, he said, adding this will be conducive to the city’s economic revival and livelihood improvement.
