TORONTO - Fred VanVleet scored 35 points and dished out eight assists to help the Toronto Raptors edge the Detroit Pistons 119-118 in Sunday's NBA game.

The 28-year-old found the mark from beyond the arc, draining six 3-pointers on 13 attempts. This was the ninth time this season that VanVleet has notched five or more threes.

The Raptors' Pascal Siakam contributed 28 points, of which 22 came in the second half on 8-for-10 shooting.

"It's a treat to have two guys out there that you can coach a team through," said acting head coach Adrian Griffin after the win. "Freddie was calling a lot of the plays and sets on the offensive end."

With the victory, the Toronto Raptors improve to 27-31 on the season and have won four of their last five games

Griffin was filling in for Nick Nurse, who missed the game due to personal reasons.

Big man Precious Achiuwa replaced Trent Jr. as a starter and recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds

This was the ninth time this season that VanVleet has poured in 30 or more points, surpassing his career-best of eight from last season. The Raptors improve to 5-4 in games in which he scores 30 or more and 20-7 all-time.
