The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will mark its first National Security Education Day after the city returned fully to normal life following the COVID-19 pandemic, with diverse activities, some of which will be held for the first time.

An opening ceremony will be held on April 15 with the theme “National Security, the Foundation of Stability and Prosperity”, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said on Tuesday ahead of a weekly Executive Council meeting.

Representatives of central government departments based in the SAR will attend the event to express support. The city’s chief secretary for administration, financial secretary and secretary for justice will chair a themed seminar with in-depth discussions about national security issues.

For the first time, Hong Kong’s disciplined forces will hold National Security Cup sports competitions to promote knowledge of national security. They will take part in a flag-raising ceremony on National Security Education Day, and five of their training schools will be opened to the public to deepen the public’s understanding of the roles and duties of the disciplined forces.
