HONG KONG - The spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Saturday strongly disapproved and firmly rejected the move of some members of the European Parliament pressuring the president of the European Commission on the third anniversary of the national security law in Hong Kong.

The parliamentarians wantonly smeared the national security law, and openly clamored for sanctions against Chinese officials, including the HKSAR government officials, which interfered in China's internal affairs including Hong Kong affairs, said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson stressed that on issues related to national sovereignty, security and development interests, the bottom line of "one country, two systems" shall not be crossed

The spokesperson pointed out that in the three years since the implementation of the national security law, Hong Kong's public order has been restored, the rule of law and justice upheld, and the extensive lawful rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong residents effectively safeguarded.

The spokesperson stressed that on issues related to national sovereignty, security and development interests, the bottom line of "one country, two systems" shall not be crossed, and the authority of the Hong Kong national security law shall not be challenged.

"We urge these people to clearly recognize the historical trend, distinguish right from wrong, abide by international law and the basic norms governing international relations, stop distorting and discrediting the national security law, and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs under any pretext," said the spokesperson.
