3 candidates qualified for Singapore's presidential election

SINGAPORE - Singapore's Presidential Elections Committee on Friday issued eligibility certificates to senior investor Ng Kok Song, former senior minister Shanmugaratnam Tharman, and Tan Kin Lian, former National Trades Union Congress Income chief.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued the writ of presidential election, setting the nomination day on Aug 22.

The presidential polls will fall on Sept 1, if more than one candidate qualifies to run for the presidency, according to a statement released by the country's Elections Department earlier.
