Hong Kong’s winning streak continued at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, with the city’s athletes picking up two gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, the city’s total medal tally stood at 21 — five gold, five sliver and 11 bronze — leaving Hong Kong in fifth place in both the gold medal tally and the total medal tally.
Hong Kong swimmer Siobhan Haughey brought honor to the city again by snatching another gold in the women’s 100-meter freestyle event on Tuesday night, after touching the wall first and setting an Asian record of 52.17 seconds. This also marks Haughey’s fourth medal and second gold medal in the ongoing games, and the fifth gold for the Hong Kong team at this Asiad.
Another gold medal winner on Tuesday was Hong Kong’s rugby sevens men’s team, which successfully defended their title by defeating South Korea 14-7.

The city’s women’s rugby sevens team also made history by defeating Thailand 7-5 and winning the bronze medal — the first medal the team have won at an Asian Games.
Also on Tuesday, windsurfer Ngai Wai-yan took the silver medal in the women’s windsurfing RS:X event, with Thailand’s Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam snatching gold. These two windsurfers had been jostling with each other throughout the competition. The Thai windsurfer managed to secure first place in the final two races, while Ngai finished in second place in both rounds.
Soon afterward, the equestrian dressage team snatched a bronze medal for Hong Kong. The players are Samantha Grace Chan, Annie Ho Yuen-yan, and Jacqueline Siu Wing-ying.

Although Ho lost the semifinals 15-12 to Japanese fencer Komata Akira, he was awarded a bronze medal, as there was no bronze medal match.

Late on Tuesday, Hong Kong won another bronze in the men’s skiff49er sailing event, with duo-team Akira Luke Sakai and Russell Williams Aylsworth taking first place in the 14 round race.
On Wednesday, Hong Kong will be well positioned to take more medals, possibly some gold, in various events, including fencing and swimming.
In the fencing events, the city is likely to contend for medals in the women’s epee team gold medal match and the men’s foil team gold medal match, with individual bronze medalist Kong Man-wai and Olympic champion Edgar Cheung Ka-long, serving as anchors for their respective teams.
Stephanie Au Hoi-shun, who holds numerous records in Hong Kong, stands out as a contender in the women’s 100m backstroke.
