Azerbaijan, Armenia swap prisoners of war

BAKU - Azerbaijan and Armenia exchanged prisoners of war at their border on Wednesday, according to the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of Azerbaijan.

The move was taken days after the two South Caucasus nations agreed on a swap deal aimed at normalizing their relations.

The exchange involved the release of 32 Armenians by Azerbaijan mostly captured in late 2020, while Armenia handed over two Azerbaijani servicemen held since April 2023.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed the exchange later on Wednesday.

Talks were held on Dec 7 between the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, in which the two sides reconfirmed their intention to normalize relations and build mutual trust.
