Hong Kong residents' income up 9.6%

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's Gross National Income (GNI) increased by 9.6 percent in the third quarter of 2023 from a year earlier, according to the Census and Statistics Department.

The special administrative region's GNI, the total income earned by Hong Kong residents from engaging in economic activities, stood at HK$860.5 billion (about $110.21 billion) at current market prices.

After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, Hong Kong's GNI increased by 5.4 percent in real terms in the third quarter of 2023 from a year earlier. The corresponding GDP in the same quarter increased by 4.1 percent in real terms.

The Chinese mainland continued to be the largest source of the SAR's total primary income inflow in the third quarter, accounting for 47.9 percent, the C&SD said. 

The territory's total inflow of primary income, which mainly comprises investment income, estimated at HK$554.1 billion in the third quarter, recorded a significant increase of 11.7 percent over a year earlier.

Meanwhile, total primary income outflow, estimated at HK$460.6 billion, also increased by 6.6 percent over a year earlier, the department added.
