HONG KONG – A thrilling game of tennis may be in store for tennis enthusiasts to start the new year, with the semi-finals and finals of Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025 set to take place on Jan 4 and 5.
A pinnacle event of the city’s sporting calendar, the ATP-sanctioned tournament on the men's professional tour kicked off in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park on Dec 29.
It features an array of world-class tennis stars, including Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 champion Andrey Rublev, Lorenzo Musetti and Karen Khachanov besides mainland professional tennis player Shang Juncheng and the highest-ranked male tennis player in Hong Kong, Wong Chak-lam.
This event offers total prize money exceeding $730,000. Public tickets for the weekend’s semi-finals and finals range from HK$980 to HK$1610.
Feel the wind and waves
As the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macao is filled with high-profile and eye-catching events, even on its waters. Kicking off on Jan 8 and running through Jan 12, the 2025 MGM Macao International Regatta is going to make a splash in the city.
As the first major sport event of Macao every year, Macao International Regatta will introduce the World Match Racing Tour: Macao Match Cup this year, one of the most prestigious sailing competitions globally.
In addition, it will also include two International Rating Certificate categories – the 'Lotus Cup' and the 'Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup'.
A series of ancillary activities, such as a fleet parade, a family fun day, and a thematic photography competition, will be held throughout the event.
Larger high-speed rail network
Starting Jan 5, Hong Kong’s high-speed rail service will expand its network with 16 new destinations, including Xi’an in Shaanxi province and Meizhou in Guangdong province. With upgraded long- and short-haul services, passengers can travel directly between Hong Kong and 93 mainland destinations.
In early 2024, the Individual Visit Scheme was expanded to eight more cities in the north and west of the country, which now covers 59 cities in total, including all provincial capital cities.
