The Hong Kong Observatory said that 2024 was the hottest year in the special administrative region since records began in 1884.
The annual average temperature in the city reached 24.8 degrees Celsius last year, 1.3 degrees higher than the normal value from 1991 to 2020, the observatory said.
Eleven of the 12 months of 2024 were warmer than normal, with record-breaking monthly average temperatures of 26.4°C in April and 27.3°C in October.

The number of very hot weather days and hot nights throughout the year also reached 52 days and 50 days, respectively.
The observatory earlier said that the autumn of 2024 was much warmer than usual, with the mean temperature of 26.5°C and mean minimum temperature of 24.5°C being the highest on record for autumn in Hong Kong.
The mean maximum temperature of 29.2°C was also one of the highest on record for the season, it added.

Meanwhile, the observatory said temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to range from normal to high from January to March 2025.
The city is also expected to have a higher chance of normal to less than normal rainfall in the first quarter of year, it added.
