Chinese shares close lower Wednesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.43 percent to 3,227.12 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.03 percent lower at 10,060.13 points.

The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.19 trillion yuan (about $165.4 billion), down from 1.35 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to Xiaohongshu, Kuaishou and the e-commerce sector were leading in gains. Meanwhile, newly-listed stocks on the STAR market and stocks in the glyphosate sector were among the top decliners.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.82 percent to close at 2,037.93 points Wednesday.
