Hong Kong’s giant panda twins — nicknamed Elder Sister and Little Brother — have grown to weigh 11 kilograms each, as they prepare for their first public appearance on Feb 16.
Media reports on Thursday said the cubs are in fine health, having weighed 122 and 112 grams at birth in August.
Their mother Ying Ying has returned to her pre-pregnancy weight of 110 kg and has a healthy appetite, consuming about 10 kg of bamboo leaves per day, according to reports.

The twins turn 6-months-old on Feb 15, and their home, Ocean Park, is making arrangements for their public debut the following day.
In late January, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said that the cubs’ first public appearance will offer residents an opportunity to better understand their unique personalities, characteristics and appearances.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government is mulling whether to initiate a naming campaign for the pair thereafter to decide their formal names, she added.
The twins, who were born on Aug 15, were the first pandas born in Hong Kong. The city welcomed its first pair of giant pandas from Sichuan province in 1999.
Their parents, Ying Ying and Le Le, arrived in Hong Kong in 2007 as a gift from the central government to mark the 10th anniversary of the city’s return to the motherland.

Less than a month after the twins’ birth, the central authorities presented another pair of pandas – An An and Ke Ke – to Hong Kong, raising to six the number of pandas residing in the city.
