PHNOM PENH - Cambodia's Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Tuesday that security personnel have foiled a plot to launch a drone attack on his mansion in southern Kandal province's Ta Khmau city.

Hun Sen, also president of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), said one of the plotters was arrested in southern Takeo province.

"I just want to confirm that in these few weeks, a drone attack has been plotted on my house," he said during the inauguration of a school building in Kandal province and his speech was live televised on the state-run TVK.

"This is an act of terrorism, and I'd like to urge foreigners to be cautious, refraining from supporting terrorist activities," he said. "Foreigners must not interfere in the domestic affairs of Cambodia."

Hun Sen said security forces thwarted the plot after he had received a secret voice message about the plan.

Hun Sen, 72, has become the Senate president since April 2024 after stepping down as the prime minister of Cambodia in August 2023, handing the reins of power to his eldest son Hun Manet.
