Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.02 percent to 3,380.21 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.93 percent higher at 10,955.65 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.94 trillion yuan ($270.45 billion), up from 1.93 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks in the steel, photovoltaics, securities, and humanoid robot sectors led the gains, while shares related to agriculture, airports, and precious metals suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.23 percent to close at 2,268.22 points.
