Beijing vowed on Monday that it "will continue to be committed to playing a constructive role" in the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and achieving peace.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a daily news briefing in Beijing when asked about last week's meeting between the heads of state of the United States and Ukraine in Washington DC.

He emphasized that "China is not a creator of the crisis, nor is it a contracting party to it."

Beijing "supports all efforts that are conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis," he said.

China "expects the various contracting parties to find a sustainable and lasting solution that can accommodate each other's concerns," he added.
