DOHA - Arab foreign ministers met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Doha on Wednesday to discuss the newly approved Arab-backed Gaza reconstruction plan.
Foreign ministers from Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, along with the secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization's executive committee, presented the reconstruction plan to Witkoff, agreeing with the US envoy to continue consultations and coordination on this plan as a basis for the reconstruction efforts in Gaza, according to a statement from Qatar's Foreign Ministry.

The Arab ministers emphasized the importance of establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing the need for genuine efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, said the statement.
They stressed the necessity of ongoing dialogue to reinforce the ceasefire and to work together for regional security, stability, and peace.

The Gaza reconstruction plan, approved at the Arab summit in Cairo on March 4, is estimated to cost $53 billion and aims to rebuild Gaza without displacing its residents.

The plan also counters a previous proposal by US President Donald Trump, which suggested redeveloping Gaza and relocating its population to neighboring countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
