Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) marked its 25th anniversary on March 14 with a launch ceremony highlighting its commitment to leading digital transformation in education. The event, officiated by Choi Yuk Lin, Secretary for Education, showcased EdCity's vision for the future of technology-driven learning.
Key announcements included the launch of Hong Kong's first "Digital Education Week" this July and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four strategic partners: The Education University of Hong Kong, Cyberport, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, and the Smart City Consortium. These collaborations aim to deepen the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education Technology (EdTech) in schools, nurturing the next generation of innovators.
Choi Yuk Lin praised EdCity as a vital partner to the Education Bureau (EDB), supporting government education policies and providing diverse resources for teaching and learning. She highlighted EdCity's online AI and computational thinking courses, its support for teacher development through the Go eLearning platform, and its efforts to upgrade digital infrastructure. The EDB will collaborate with EdCity on Digital Education Week, featuring the Learning and Teaching Expo and the International Summit on the Use of AI in Learning and Teaching Languages and Other Subjects.
Armstrong Lee, Chairman of EdCity, emphasized the organization's role as a "super connector," linking the government, innovation and technology sectors, educational institutions, and research organizations. He stated EdCity's commitment to developing an AI Education Ecosystem and fostering collaboration between education and innovation communities.
Tenny Lam, Executive Director of EdCity, detailed the innovative projects planned for the year, including Digital Education Week. The week will incorporate the Learning and Teaching Expo, themed "Education: A Shared Future for All," and the International Summit on the Use of AI in Learning and Teaching Languages and Other Subjects.
The MoUs signed with EdUHK, Cyberport, HKFEW, and SCC will promote the application and development of EdTech and AI in education.
To commemorate its 25th anniversary, EdCity launched a "Learning from Experts" series, with Olympic gold medalist Vivian Kong Man-wai as the inaugural speaker. Kong shared her experiences with over 2,000 students, emphasizing the importance of resilience and a positive attitude.
