The SAR government should formulate an overall strategy to engage business sectors and communities in deepening international cooperation and exchanges, Hong Kong’s sole delegate to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, Starry Lee Wai-king, has suggested.
Lee made the remarks on Monday at a forum hosted by the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Center. Her suggestions were inspired by Hong Kong's unique position within the country and the promising prospects for its future development, as outlined in the nation’s two sessions, held from March 4 to 11.
Regarding China's diplomatic efforts, Lee said the nation aims to foster friendships with different countries while introducing active diplomatic policies.

She further elaborated on the central government's plan, which strongly emphasizes that Hong Kong should prioritize deepening international exchanges, while also strengthening connections with mainland cities and maintaining a close relationship with the country as a whole.
Lee explained that Hong Kong has a history and foundation for exchanges, not only in the economic field, but also political, cultural, sporting and educational.
"Hong Kong is one of the cities that people travel to the most and we can build on this tradition to become a more international society. I suggest that the SAR government formulate an overall strategy for how to (promote) international exchanges and invite different sectors to join," she said.
She also emphasized the importance of appreciating the city’s unique advantages under the “one country, two systems” principle, which make it more open and international.
Hong Kong is positioned as a financial, commercial and trade center, and should assist the country to develop quality productivity in the field of technology, Lee said.

Expressing full confidence in the country's future development, Lee added, "The decisions made during the two sessions have clearly laid out the roles and paths for Chinese organizations. Despite the current geopolitical tensions, which may pose challenges to achieving our goals, overall, I have confidence in our ruling party.”
