AMMAN - Jordan's Interior Ministry has decided to keep the Jaber border crossing, which connects Jordan with Syria, will operate 24 hours a day starting Sunday, March 23.
In a statement released Monday, the ministry said the decision was made in coordination with the Syrian side, ensuring all necessary measures are in place for the smooth and efficient operation of the crossing. Logistical and security facilities have also been enhanced to facilitate seamless movement at the border.
With the move, the Jaber border crossing will align its operating hours with those of the Al-Omari border crossing, which connects Jordan with Saudi Arabia.
The decision comes during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday which is expected to witness increased traveler movement. According to the statement, authorities aim to ease passenger departures, facilitate cargo transportation, and reduce waiting times at the border.
According to the statement, the extended hours are expected to boost trade and economic activities between Jordan and Syria. The crossing is already experiencing heightened cargo traffic and traveler flow.
On Feb. 20, the Ministry of Interior extended working hours at the Jaber border crossing from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, instead of the previous schedule of 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, after coordination with the Syrian side to facilitate travel between the two countries.
