1 dead, 4 missing in Southwest China landslide

KUNMING - One person was killed and another four are missing in a landslide on Tuesday in Southwest China's Yunnan province, authorities said.

Following days of continuous downpours, the landslide occurred at 4:50 am Tuesday near a river in Lumadeng township, Fugong county in Lisu autonomous prefecture of Nujiang, according to the information office of the prefecture government.

Of the six people missing at first, one was rescued and sent to a local hospital for treatment, with no life-threatening conditions, while another was found at 8:33 am but died despite medical efforts.

Rescuers are rushing to search for the others.
