Demand for artificial intelligence-related talents is growing in Hong Kong as the city ramps up efforts to develop AI as its core industry.

More than 2,000 posts were on offer from more than 580 companies at the Cyberport Career Fair 2025 organized by Cyberport on Friday, of which more than 60 percent were related to AI applications.

“This year’s career fair has revealed the huge potential and opportunities of the AI industry,” said Simon Chan Sai-ming, chairman of Cyberport, one of the platforms promoting Hong Kong’s innovation and technology industry.

“According to our survey, 70 percent of employers plan to recruit talents with AI experience, covering fintech, digital entertainment, education, health, retail, robot and internet, environment and other sectors.”.

In addition to seeking employees with AI application skills, “75 percent of organizations plan to enhance their employees’ AI skills,” he said.

A report from the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 shows that AI technology is rapidly changing the labor market. It is estimated that 86 percent of companies will be transformed due to the development of AI technology, creating 11 million new jobs by 2030. Big data experts and talents in AI and machine learning are expected to be among the groups with the biggest demand.

“AI cannot replace human beings, but people who can apply AI will replace those who cannot use it,” said Chan Yue Chun, head of Spatial Data Office of Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

“We are in an era where computing power is faster than the human brain, so it’s time to adjust our mindset on  AI. We are considering introducing the idea of applying AI into all aspects of society, such as thinking more about how we can use AI to solve problems.”

AI Interviewer, an AI-enabled interactive interview assessment platform, is one of the AI application products that showed up at the career fair. Developed by TechJobAsia, a tech firm at Cyberport, the platform can help job seekers evaluate their interview performance through real-time dialogues and in-depth questions about industry-specific knowledge.

The launch of the job fair reflects Hong Kong’s intensified efforts to promote the AI industry. In the 2025-2026 Budget on Feb 26, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will strive to develop AI as a core industry and empower traditional industries in their upgrading and transformation through frontier research and real-world application.

“In the past few years, people were still finding proper application scenarios for AI and that is why AI has not entered a mature stage,” said Vincent Kwok, managing director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise for Hong Kong and Macao.

“Experts in the financial and medical fields need to adopt a mindset of applying AI. Only when they have the awareness of applying AI can application scenarios be found and joint efforts with AI scientists made,” he said.
