Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.05 percent to 3,350.13 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.09 percent higher at 10,513.12 points.

The combined turnover of the stock market stood at 974.5 billion yuan (about $135.74 billion), down from 1.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to robots and tobacco emerged as top gainers, while those in precious metals, oil and gas and electricity sectors suffered big losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.13 percent to close at 2,104.63 points.
