BAGHDAD - Iraq's cabinet on Wednesday approved Nov 11, 2025, as the date for the country's next parliamentary elections, according to a statement from the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani.

The decision, endorsed during a cabinet vote, will see Iraqis elect a new 329-member Council of Representatives, the body responsible for forming the government and enacting legislation.

Jumana al-Ghalai, spokesperson for the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), said the commission is prepared to hold the elections on schedule. Last month, IHEC said more than 29 million Iraqis are eligible to vote.

Iraq remains mired in political volatility more than two decades after the 2003 US-led invasion. The most recent parliamentary vote, held in 2021, triggered violent clashes in Baghdad and led to an 11-month deadlock before a government was formed.
