HONG KONG – Heavy rain drenched Hong Kong on Thursday afternoon, prompting the city’s observatory to issue an amber rainstorm warning signal.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the rainstorm warning at 4:25 pm, saying that heavy rain exceeding 30 millimeters in an hour is expected to continue across the territory. A thunderstorm warning, which was issued at 9:20 am on Thursday, was also scheduled to last until 7:30 pm.
Lightning was recorded in all areas of the city between 3:45 and 4:45 pm, with Tsuen Wan and North District recording up to 40 mm of rainfall in an hour.

The HKO warned that there can be flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, urging the public to take precautions.
The Drainage Services Department urged the members of the public to report any street flooding that they notice.
