CityU professor heads global workgroup for IoT standards

Tsang Kim-fung of City University of Hong Kong, heads the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers working group to set the Maturity Index for the Internet of Things — a vital component of smart city connectivity. The lack of a global standard prevents open IoT systems deployment. The government plans smart city initiatives, a data hub center, and Industry 4.0 Reindustrialization.

Battling the invisible, silent killer in bad air

HK on Sunday recorded its second-worst level of air pollution at ‘Very High’. The EPD cited a surge of ozone likely to linger till strong winds blow it away. Air Pollution causes premature deaths of thousands annually in the city. Ozone is toxic and reduces human immunity to respiratory diseases. Fortunately, annual air pollution death statistics are declining. Greater regional coordination and switch to electric vehicles are seen as effective measures.
