MAGDEBURG - China secured seven berths in the women's singles quarterfinals and five for the men's singles here on Friday at the ITTF German Open.
China held the upper hand against Germany as Fan Zhendong battled past German legendary Timo Boll 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9.

Lin Gaoyuan saves five match points in game six to force a decider against Japan's Koki Niwa. With momentum on his side, the Chinese player sealed the win 11-7, 9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 10-12, 18-16, 11-8 to book his place in the last eight.
Another standout face in Magdeburg, Benedikt Duda's journey has finally drawn to its conclusion with China's Zhao Zihao recovering from 0-2 and then 2-3 down to defeat the German 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8.

Xu Xin grabbed the win over Japan's Oikawa Mizuki 11-3, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7. Ma Long also advanced after beating fellow compatriot Xu Chenhao 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5.

In the women's singles competition, China's rising star Sun Yingsha defeated Japan's Kasumi Ishikawa in a splendid performance by the teenager, winning 11-5, 11-3, 14-12, 12-10. Japan's Hina Hayata had to withdraw due to an injury, sending Chinese Olympian Ding Ning through to the quarterfinals.
Zhu Yuling and Wang Yidi came out on top over their opponents, German Petrissa Solja and China's He Zhuojia. Zhu needed just 33 minutes to see off Solja, winning 11-9, 11-9, 11-6, 11-5. Similarly for Wang, she waltzed past her compatriot Zhuojia in straight games 12-10, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 to reach the quarterfinals.
Chen Meng claimed the victory over her fellow compatriot Qian Tianyi 11-6, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 11-8. Liu Shiwen took the win over her teammate Zhang Rui 9-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-9, 11-6. Wang Manyu outplayed Shibata Saki from Japan 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.

China's Fan/Zhou, Ding/Sun out
For the men's doubles, the Chinese men's pair Fan Zhendong/Zhou Yu and women's duo Ding Ning/Sun Yingsha were outplayed respectively in the quarterfinals and semifinals on Friday.
Fan/Zhou could not handle the speed of the South Korean duo Lee Sang-su/Jeoung Young-sik who won 7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 over the top seeds. Despite losing the first game, Lee/Jeoung stuck to their strategy and found their feet to attack the Chinese pair with wide shots and a good defense.
However, Lee and Jeoung won't be present in Saturday's final after losing out to Cho Dae-seong/Jang Woo-jin 11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-3 in an all-South Korean semifinal encounter.

Lin Gaoyuan/ Ma Long swept Belgian pair Martin Allegro/Florent Lambiet 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 in the quarterfinal round before they came close to a penultimate round exit, edging Poland's Jakub Dyjas and Belgium's Cedric Nuytinck in a five-game thriller 11-9, 12-10, 6-11, 6-11, 11-6.

In the women's doubles, China's Chen Meng/Wang Manyu was in a rush against Lee Ho-ching/Soo Wai-yam Minnie from China's Hong Kong in the quarterfinal round, seeing their opponents off in 17 minutes with straight wins (11-6, 11-5, 11-2).
The No. 3 seed Ding Ning/Sun Yingsha beat Singapore's Lin Ye/Yu Mengyu in a similarly swift 3-0 win (11-5, 11-9, 11-7) in the quarterfinal round, but lost the semifinal to Japan's Miu Hirano/Kasumi Ishikawa who kept their composure to secure a 3-1 comeback victory 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 12-10.
Awaiting the Japanese pair in the final is another Chinese duo, top seeds Chen Meng/Wang Manyu, who also came through a four-game win against the host nation's Nina Mittelham/Petrissa Solja 11-4, 7-11, 15-13, 11-4.
Meanwhile, tThe Chinese mixed duo Xu Xin/Liu Shiwen cruised past Ho Kwan-kit/Lee Ho-ching from China's Hong Kong 11-5, 11-5, 11-8 in 19 minutes in the quarterfinal.
Top seed Xu/Liu took all five games to see off local favorites Patrick Franziska/Petrissa Solja 11-5, 10-12, 11-2, 9-11, 11-5 in the semifinal. The Chinese pair will face off with Japan's Jun Mizutani/Mima Ito in the final on Sunday.
